The back-up zoos back-up

Yesterday I promised Addie we would go to the zoo. I thought it was supposed to be nice weather all week. Wrong! Woke up to a wind storm last night and then gray skies this morning. I knew shed be upset so I resorted to a back up plan... Quick trip to the Oak Mountain petting zoo before bad weather arrived this afternoon.

Miraculously, we were up and on our way by nine. All were excited. I paid my $3 and told the lady we were heading to the petting zoo... But lo and behold it was CLOSED! Gah! Toddler meltdown was well on its way, it was starting to sprinkle and I felt so bad. She had been so excited. I got them back in the car and drove next door to the stables planning on begging someone to let my kid pet a pony, but begging wasn't even necessary. There was a picnic area right in front of the stalls and I just went ahead and assumed it was okay to pet the horses if you could eat with them!

She was thrilled and so brave. Went right up and stuck her hand in ones mouth (slight panic from me) and made faces, sang to them and fed them grass. I'm sure the horses were less than impressed with the snack selection, but they were lovely and ate it anyway to her delight. Thank you horses. Next time I'll bring carrots, promise. It was really a treat for me too. I love horses and went to a horse camp during the summer as a kid. These big creatures with gentle eyes are friends to me. We also saw the ducks get in a fight and jump in the water, a turtle, and a little pony. Jacob even reached out from the safety of the bjorn and grabbed the horse's nose! All in all, success! Thank you to the horses for helping me out. You rock!
